The eSports segment of the competition is targeted at tapping into organised electronic sports, which is globally considered as the next frontier of virtual sport.

Speaking on the new eSports proposition, Tusker brand Manager, Catherine Twesigye, remained confident that organised virtual gaming is the next frontier of Kenyan sports.”

“Virtual or electronic sports is the future; the new age of sports with fewer barriers to entry than conventional sports. Not only is it extremely versatile, but it also allows for inclusion for more people, wherever they are in the world. As Tusker, we took into consideration our current sporting interactions and found that we needed to plan for the future and that is where we came up with the proposition of Tusker Nexters eSports. We have created a space where the best gaming talent in the country will compete and hopefully become trailblazers for the future of organised sport in Kenya.”

She added: “As we travel across the country, we want to continue to keep true our promise as Tusker as celebrating Kenyans loudly and proudly. We believe eSport will be the perfect platform both now and in the future for us to engage with our upcoming sportsmen and women as we increase the profile of the sport in the country.

Charles Nyinya, a contestant at the knockout competition in Kisumu also mentioned his excitement at the eSports property and was looking forward to see similar platforms moving forward: “eSports are a fast-growing platform and can provide opportunities for the youth like myself to turn their hobbies into a means of making a living.”

Currently in its second weekend of competition Tusker Nexters eSports traveled to Kisumu seeing hundreds of talented gamers come through to test their skills against the best in the region.

Following the final Knockout stage on Sunday, four gamers will come out on top and will be selected to represent the region in May during the national finals

The e-gaming competition has been predominantly focused on the football game FIFA 2022 which is currently the most popular gaming attraction globally.

Following the Lake region, the Tusker Nexters eSports platform will head to Nairobi on 26th March 2022, at the Nyayo Stadium with more hopefuls from the capital getting the opportunity to showcase their gaming prowess over a two-day knockout competition.
