The Safaricom Youth Orchestra Makes Its Comeback Since The Onset Of COVID-19

The Safaricom Youth Orchestra group of 2022 graduated last Sunday at Jain Bhavan auditorium in Loresho. The graduation ceremony that was graced by family, friends and jazz lovers saw hundreds of enthusiastic kids play in front of an audience for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Knowing how important the value of face-to-face practice and play is in terms of music, you could see how excited the kids and their families were to have them back to performing in front of an audience once more.

With a beautiful 2 hours of special performances from the kids, we were taken back to the days of the Safaricom Jazz Festival, an event that celebrated jazz in all it’s elements; including folk fusion, classic pieces aka renditions of some of our beloved songs and acts from international performers.

Safaricom PLC Chief of Special Projects Joe Ogutu, was more than happy with the performances. He expressed his excitement to see the kids back on stage as their families supported them, and thanked the tutors for their never ending support to the kids as they kept pursuing music during the harsh COVID-19 period

Here are some of the highlights of the occasion:
