One thing I’ve learnt over time is that it’s never too early to get your child/children interested in a sporting activity and that includes golf. Take Tiger Woods as an example – he started playing golf when he was 2 years. His father started teaching him the basics of the game and he continued to play and now he’s one of the most well-known professional golfers of our time.

This is but one of the objectives of the Safaricom Golf Tour; specifically under the Junior Golf clinics and the Junior Golf Tournament that is held after the Corporate tournament.

One of the kids I met at the Muthaiga Golf Club, Nicole Wairimu, says how the clinic is a very enriching experience. She told me how they’re being taught how to position yourself while taking a swing, how to effectively hit the ball so it can reach its target and also not to get disappointed when you don’t hit your target.

Young Jesse started his curiosity for golf at under 2 years. He has taken after his grandfather who is a member of Limuru Golf Club and his mother says that he really enjoys the game. His swings are incredible and his energy was almost infectious. I can’t wait to see him on the course in the next few years.

Blessing Ndugwa, a 10 year old student at Muthaiga Primary had her father to thank when he brought her to the Muthaiga Golf Club. She says that the trainers are really effective in teaching them how to properly hold the club and maintaining the grip even as they swing the club.

I also noticed them taking practice swings and it was really encouraging seeing upcoming star Njoroge Kibugu mentor and help the kids with their swings after his outstanding performance in the 2022 Magical Kenya Open.

Over 250 junior golfers took part in Sunday’s junior tournament which saww twelve years-old Shashwart Harish and Audrey Gachora emerging as the overall winners of the third leg of the tournament.

The duo posted 78 and 77 points to inch titles in a tournament that saw 132 junior golfers take part with over 70 juniors participating in the golf clinic.

After Muthaiga, the tournament heads to Nyanza Golf Club on March 26th-27th 2022, before proceeding to the Machakos Golf Club.
