The accreditation means the students are legally recognised as construction workers who will adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards.

In 2021, the Waithaka Vocational Training Centre enrolled 100 students under the programme, with 96 students set to get internship opportunities between January and March this year.

“We congratulate the students who have been accredited, which means that they will be able to practise in their various trades in line with set regulations. Safaricom Foundation’s TVET programme seeks to enable the youth to contribute to Kenya’s sustainable development through vocational skills,” said, Hosea Mogera, Manager, Toolkit iSkills Limited.

Zizi Afrique, who are the programme managers, offered mentorship to the students while Toolkit iSkills (TTI) Ltd provided life skills training and placement opportunities for the students.

Safaricom Foundation’s TVET programme was launched in 2020 with a focus on Plumbing, Food and Beverage, Electrical Installation and Welding. Among the institutions that the TVET Programme supports include Kibondeni College in Nairobi County and Mabati Technical Training Institute in Kwale County.
