Nokia On The 5G Dream

Nokia 5G network

We are living in a fast-changing world especially in terms of connections. Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s clearer now than ever that we could and should connect virtually no matter the geographical location. To achieve this,  having a reliable connection should be the top priority and that’s where Nokia comes to play. Nokia has made a priority to give its customers greater confidence in its technology roadmap through its 5G network they are currently rolling out across the globe.

Nokia has demonstrated just how fast 5G mobile connectivity can be during its recent rollouts around the world and confident of its impact over the next few years.

With speeds of 700 megabits per second, 10 to 20 times faster than the current 4G network, users could stream ultra-high-definition films without any time lag. Mobile gamers will also notice less delay when pressing a button on a controller and seeing the effect on the screen. Similarly, mobile videos should be near instantaneous and glitch-free while video calls would become clearer and less jerky under the 5G network.

In Kenya, Nokia partnered with Airtel Kenya to deploy its high-speed 5G-ready hardware. The deployment, which began in June, will cover hundreds of sites and include upgrading existing 2G, 3G, and 4G radio access network (RAN) coverage in urban, semi-urban, highways, tourist spots, and central business districts in Nairobi and the rest of Kenya. Nokia’s future-proofed network infrastructure will also offer Airtel Kenya the option to smoothly transition to 5G. The upgraded network will deliver enhanced connectivity to customers of Airtel Kenya and access to new, high-speed data services.

Nokia is supplying Airtel Kenya with its AirScale Single RAN (S-RAN) portfolio for both indoor and outdoor coverage, including base stations and radio access products. These solutions will enable Airtel Kenya to deliver improved connectivity and capacity benefits including enhanced voice and data services to its subscribers while reducing complexity and driving cost efficiencies. The improved network will provide higher data speeds using additional 4G spectrum bands and provide access to secure, high-speed, and reliable data services.

The company has also manufactured affordable 5G-enabled smartphone including Nokia 6.4, 7.4 and 8.5 which goes well with what the company’s plans of getting ready for a mass-market push for 5G.

So far, Nokia Single RAN software has already been deployed to more than a million sites across the globe. With Single RAN, the 5G future is really here, and you can be ready for 5G faster than you ever thought possible with remote software activation in a matter of seconds rather than months.
