The World Economic Forum (WEF) has now announced their selection for the WEF Technology Pioneers 2018. Any listed companies are usually in an early stage, also known as startups. This collection of organizations has been published annually going back to the year 2000. Amongst the previous picks were also companies such as Airbnb, bluebird bio, Bloom Energy, Cyberdyne, Editas Medicine, Foundation Medicine, Google, Kaggle, Kickstarter, Mozilla, Palantir Technologies, Proteus Digital Health, Rethink Robotics, Scribd, Spotify, Twitter,Wikimedia, and others that are nowadays heavyweights in their industry.
The startups that appear in the WEF Technology Pioneers list often work on ground-breaking and disruptive ideas and you should definitely keep an eye on them in the future. The WEF Technology Pioneers 2018 were separated into eight different categories, being Digital & Entertainment, Cyber Security & Digital Identity, Mobility, Energy & Environment, Production, Financial Systems, Health, Food Security & Agriculture.
This year, our very own Carepay, which is a platform for health financing and delivery in Kenya has been included among the 61 companies awarded the title of Technology Pioneer 2018.

CarePay’s M-TIBA platform streamlines the management of large-scale health financing schemes. It supports greater penetration of health financing through fast, simple and cost effective enrolment via any mobile device.
The M-TIBA digital platform for inclusive healthcare is transforming how people in Kenya are paying for and accessing healthcare. In less than a year, nearly 1 million people have signed up. M-TIBA, developed by PharmAccess, Kenyan mobile operator Safaricom and health payment platform CarePay, enables people to save, send, receive and pay money for medical treatment through a mobile health wallet on their phone. The digital platform allows for a more efficient and transparent way of connecting patients, doctors, payers and governments that is based on a constant flow of almost real-time data.
