Hot Seat For The Boy Child! BLAZE B.Y.O.B. Season 2 Episode 2 Recap

It’s only the second episode of the Blaze B.Y.O.B TV Show and things are heating up!

This week the contestants were given three tasks: come up with two juice flavours (vegetable and fruit), identify vendors to purchase ingredients from, set up a stall and sell their product to make the highest possible profit.

Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong!

First off, the teams were asked to select team leaders without knowing what the challenge would be, throwing a spanner in the works because nobody knew what they were going to be asked to do.

The Seal Team decided to go with Brian, while the girls selected Daisy.

You could tell from the beginning that Fitstop’s team dynamic had changed after their loss last week, with Daisy making it very clear that her leadership style was all about collaboration.

They also ended up having an advantage over the boys once the challenge was announced, and made sure to milk Malkia’s knowledge of the food business and Daisy’s PR, Marketing and people skills to beat the boys.

What more did they use to beat the boys? A pinch of pettiness and snitching that got the boys penalized. What the boys saw as initiative turned out to be against the rules, and also ended up working against them because they made their juices too early and some of it went bad thanks to the blistering Nairobi heat. Seems like the chef they hired to advise them on juice blending forgot to mention that fresh juice needs to be stored in a fridge. Duh.

It wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns for the girls though: their blender broke down, the juicer wasn’t working fast enough to produce the litres of carrot juice they needed to fulfill an order, and they had a little disagreement about plastic cups and whether or not to give them out to clients for free.

But you could feel the team spirit and determination oozing from those girls!

From Barbra’s excitement at her Fit Juice ideas to Malkia’s “don’t mess with me while I juice” face. And did you see Monica struggling to peel carrots? Poor girl lost her nails in the process, but what are nails when you can taste sweet, juicy victory?

Come judgment day and it was pretty obvious that the boys had lost. Even their colourful outfits were not enough to lift their spirits. Brian was put on the spot for poor leadership and even though he tried to drag Kwame and Kevin under the bus with him the judges were not having it.

Something else judge Caroline was not having, their decision to make tropical juice for sale. I swear I died when she called it “the mashakura of juices.”

Anyway, I cannot wait to see what happens next week, especially now that Mercy and John Kennedy have been asked to switch teams because their presence has hardly been felt so far. You know whose presence I’m felt though? Kevin’s. This guy makes me laugh so hard I can’t wait to hear what he says next.

Let’s catch up again next week! Shall we? 😊
