Nokia definitely brings nostalgia to some millennials. This brand dates back to almost 18 years ago and what stood out the most apart from the snake game (which is better and now improved) was the long battery life. This phone had a battery life of almost one month. I say this because I rarely saw my mum charge the phone and when she did, the phone would be 100% in the morning, and best believe by evening the phone would be at 99% and this is after playing snakes for hours on end at the expense of house chores and calling random numbers.

Well, Nokia is back! The brand came back in December 2016 and launched some phones which by the way did very well. According to Joseph Omunakwe, the general manager of HMD Global, the company has been around for one year and within that year they have sold to 80 countries globally and have activated their devices in 170 markets with Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya being their biggest market. They have a total of 8 retailers, 549 distributors, 17+ operators, 574 direct customers and were been able to sell over 70 million phones within their first year of operation and this I guess is because they already had a good reputation considering their previous phones.

Within six months, they had already achieved 1% global market share and won 25 awards; which simply means their devices trended the most after their release to the market. The devices that were especially famous in the Kenyan market were Nokia 5, Nokia 3, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8.

On 24th April 2018, Nokia introduced three smartphones that run on the latest android operating systems. The phones are Nokia 1, Nokia 6.1 & Nokia 7

NOKIA 7 PLUS

The phone runs on android Oreo, machined from a single block of 6000 series aluminium, the Nokia 7 plus comes with anodised edges, contrasting with the body to add a stylish two-tone touch. Its gently curved back and slim edges give you a big-screen experience in a comfortable, neat package. The vivid 6-inch 18:9 Full HD+ display makes the Nokia 7 plus perfect for browsing, social media consumption, gaming and entertainment with more content in the same width as a traditional 5.5-inch display device.

With 4GB of RAM, it is fast enough to take on those of us always doing two things at once. The high-contrast polarised screen delivers an outstanding viewing experience even in the brightest of conditions, so you can enjoy your favourite content wherever you are in just one touch.

Dual rear sensors with ZEISS optics combine an ultra-sensitive 12MP wide-angle primary camera for impressive performance in both low-light and extra bright conditions and a secondary 13MP sensor that delivers 2x optical zoom for the moments when you wish you were closer. The Nokia 7 plus boasts Pro Camera mode which lets you take pictures like a pro by giving you quick and easy manual control over advanced camera settings like white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed and exposure. You can see the impact of your adjustments in real time before you snap to achieve your perfect photo with just one take and no need for filters.

Introducing, for the first time on a Nokia smartphone, artificial intelligence led imaging features, making your already great selfies even better. And with masks you can have more fun with your camera.
With its impressive 16MP front-facing camera with ZEISS optics, the Nokia 7 plus adapts to low light conditions by increasing light sensitivity to guarantee picture-perfect selfies. Enhanced Dual-Sight harnesses the front and back cameras simultaneously to capture the ultimate #Bothie and keep it safe with unlimited photo and video uploads to Google Photos . Three microphones capture immersive 360° Nokia spatial audio to match your 4K video, helping transport your audience to the centre of the action and creating content worthy of the big screen. With 4GB RAM and 3800 mAh battery, this phone is sure to serve you.
What stands out the most is the fact that the phone has TWO day battery life and goes for only KSH.46,000

NOKIA 6.1

Building on the success of its predecessor, the new Nokia 6 packs even more powerful performance and great new features into a more compact, durable body. Powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 630 Mobile Platform, the new Nokia 6 is over 60% faster than its award-winning predecessor.

Also, now offering enhanced Dual-Sight, ZEISS optics, USB-C fast-charging, Nokia spatial audio and pure, secure and up-to-date Android Oreo™. It was voted as the most durable phone and the best seller in the year 2017 and I believe that can be seen. The phone has an upgraded processor from 430 to 660 and therefore more battery life as mentioned above.
The phone has fingerprint censor and dual sight mode. The camera is in 4k and it captures 360 degrees. This means that he sound captures comes from all directions compared to the conventional one directional sound from the devices in the market.

It also has pro mode and therefore one has more flexibility on how to capture video and photo in terms of shutter speed and aperture. The camera features include a dual camera of rear camera of 16mega pixels and back camera of 18 megapixels.
The phone goes for only Kshs .29,000 and is available on selected retailers.

NOKIA 1

Imagine having a phone that has optimized apps according to the RAM on your phone. This is what the Nokia 1 does.

With only 1GB RAM, it ensures that all apps you download are optimized to use on your phone without having to tamper with the quality and having to slow down your phone. The apps come with low memory and hence minimize on space. The phone  also runs on Android Oreo Go edition.

The Nokia 1 is the champion of giving more people access to technology. With the reassuring quality and design expected of a Nokia smartphone, it keeps you connected with all your smartphone essentials and apps.

With a quad-core processor, front and rear cameras, 4G connectivity and dual SIM, the Nokia 1 elevates everything you love about feature phones in an accessible smartphone package. Combining a removable 2150 mAh battery and power-efficient IPS display, its hardware works with the optimised apps so you can make the most out of each charge.

Available in Warm Red and Dark Blue the Nokia 1 is available from KES 9,500.00 in open market retail stores. And what stands out is that it has express on colours meaning one can change the colour of their phone. How amazing is that?

When asked if there are other devices they plan on bringing to the market apart from phones, Mr Mark Musimi said that they pan on working on bringing tablets in the future but for now, they are focusing on their five year goal which is to be the top three phone brand around. This means that Nokia is surely here to stay this time!
