The HiiL Justice Accelerator is calling on all innovators and entrepreneurs working in justice for this unique opportunity to receive specialized training, mentorship and up to 20 000 Euros (per startup) in equity-free grant money from one of the world’s leading proponents of justice innovations. Applications for the 2018 program close on 31 May 2018.

Potential candidates for the Justice Accelerator can be working for an NGO or startup, or simply have a good idea for a scalable solution that will improve access to justice and legal systems in Kenya and the continent beyond and have until midnight on the 31 May, East African time, to answer their call for applications.

Previous HiiL Justice Accelerator cohorts have included well known innovators such as Kenya’s Usalama (an app that connects user to emergency service providers at the click of a button), Sauti (which provides business and legal information for cross-border traders along the Kenya-Uganda border), Msheria (which provides cash bail for matatu drivers) and Mulika Hongo (a corruption reporting platform active in over 12 counties across Kenya).

From across Africa and the world, dynamic projects improving access to justice such as LawForMe from India, Citizen Justice Network from South Africa and DIY Law from Nigeria have gone through the HiiL Justice Accelerator.

HiiL offers a carefully tailored acceleration program that draws on its in-depth knowledge of successful justice innovations, and global network of like-minded organizations and investors. The organization works to create partnerships that will help budding legal-tech startups achieve success, and assist established innovators to scale.

Applications are particularly encouraged that address 3 main pain points of justice in the Kenyan context: family justice, land disputes, and crime and law enforcement. These pain points came about from the 2018 Justice Needs Survey, an initiative of HiiL, the World Bank and the Judiciary Training Institute that mapped and analyzed the justice needs of over 6000 Kenyans in 28 counties. Applications are also welcome from other areas.
