FP2020 To Release Annual Progress Report On Family Planning On Tuesday 26 January 2021

Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) is releasing its Annual Progress Report, The Arc of Progress, on January 262021. The report will be published online at progress.familyplanning2020.org.

The report will feature an introduction by FP2020’s Executive Director, Beth Schlachter, as well as the two FP2020 Reference Group Co-chairs: Dr. Chris Elias, President of Global Development, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director, UNFPA.

Alongside the latest data and analysis on family planning in FP2020’s 69 focus countries, the report includes reflections on FP2020’s eight-year initiative as it transitions to the next phase of the partnership, highlighting the countries that have strengthened and expanded their family planning programs.

The report also tells the story of how, in the past year, family planning has faced its greatest threat yet – the COVID-19 pandemic. The report concludes by setting out vision for the future, as the global family planning community embarks on a new decade of partnership.

The report will launch ahead of a high-level virtual event to celebrate the FP2020 partnership and kick-off the commitment process for the future partnership. Media are invited to tune in for the launch online and join FP2020’s high-level virtual event.

Following the launch of the report, 1:1 interview opportunities will be available.

About the report

The report provides an in-depth overview of progress in family planning across FP2020’s 69 focus countries in the eight years of the FP2020 partnership, 2012-2020. It reveals the latest data on access to modern contraception for women and girls across the world and highlights how the FP2020 partnership has served as a global platform to harness innovation and advance progress on family planning.

It is divided into three themes:

1.       Family Planning 2012-2020: The Arc of Progress

2.       Family Planning in the Time of COVID

3.       A Stronger Partnership for a New Era

Looking ahead, the report sets out a roadmap to ensuring that women and girls everywhere have the freedom and ability to lead healthy lives, make their own informed decisions about using contraception and having children, and participate as equals in society and its development.
