The female golfers really blew us away this Safaricom Golf Tour. From showing up in large numbers to clinching top spots in a couple of legs, the ladies really showed us that every shot is an opportunity. Here are some of them:
Faith Chemutai from Kitale Club
Not only is she passionate about golf, she is also an entrepreneur in the golf business where she sells golf attire and is keen on helping young golfers and other kids interested in the game to nurture their skills and grow their confidence on the course.
Lydia Jebichii
Thirty-year-old Nandi based golfer Lydia Jebichii clinched the title of the overall winner during the 4th leg of the #SafaricomGolfTour to become the first female golfer to secure the top spot in the series in the senior’s category. She also dominated to claim the Longest Drive Ladies in Kitale.
Alyssa Jamal and Sophia Nesbitt
16 year old Alyssa and her brother Aydan Jamal were the overall junior winners of the Nyali’s Safaricom Juniors tournament. The siblings started playing golf at a very young age and literally following the footsteps of her father in the course and how he played golf, she’s become an unstoppable force on the course
Sophia Nesbitt started playing golf at the age of 5 and now at age 10, the sky is the limit for her as she’s won almost all the tournaments she’s participated in. With her brother Adam also on the course & with the support of both her parents and her grandmother who played golf for 50 years, Sophia is one of my favorite junior golfers.
Mary Ang’awa of the Junior Golf Foundation
Justice Mary Ang’awa is the honorable secretary of the Junior Golf Foundation, which has partnered with Safaricom Golf Tour to help mentor, nurture and grow the skills of young interested players around the country. She works alongside very passionate leaders including sports veteran Larry Ngala who work tirelessly to nurture the kids in the beautiful game.
Coach Priscilla Wangari
Coach Priscilla is a US Kids Coach based at the Karen Country Club. As a kids coach, she has dedicated her career to developing junior golf by teaching the kids the basics of golf & encouraging parents to introduce their kids to golf early in life because of the principles it teaches.
Lucy Muthoni
At 15 years of age, Lucy Muthoni a junior golfer from Nakuru is just one of the many aspiring kids with disabilities who push through their challenges to achieve their dreams. Even though she hasn’t been playing for long, she has the potential to be one of the greatest players Kenya has seen. From the moment she hit the ball, her coach knew she would be a great player and we wish her nothing but the best as she strives to pursue her golfing career.
