Ready To Jam With Serro? Catch Her This Wednesday At Mama’s Jamhuri Jam Sessions

It’s no secret that Kenya’s entertainment industry is one of the most dynamic in Africa. Full of artists with their own music styles and influences, one of the artists shaping the Kenyan music landscape is Serro.

Hulda Serro is a young Kenyan singer, songwriter and drummer. Her sound is mainly influenced by most of what Africa offers; be it language spoken or the kind of instruments used.

She likes to take each and everything as a form of inspiration and in return would like to inspire others through her music. She is also highly passionate about empowering the girl child, showing them that everything they want to be, they can be.

Serro is out to tell the African story through her Benga and Jazz-fused Afro-Pop sound. Influenced by Yemi Alade, Dela, Sautisol and Winyo, her sound contains hints of Kenyan traditional folk sounds.

She has graced numerous stages, while still pursuing her degree in Music at Kenyatta University. Her larger-than-life stage persona and powerful but fluid voice have made her performances memorable. From Sondeka Festival to Pawa Festival and her own concert (Kasha), she has ended up in the list of “Top 10 Female Artistes to look out for in 2016” by Kenya Buzz.

By the time she was graduating in 2017 (with first class honours), Serro had shared the stage with award-winning acts such as Sauti Sol, Dela, Wyre and added her mellow vocals to Juma Tutu & the Swahili Jazz Band and Ricky na Marafiki.

Serro represented the country in 2015 at an intensive collaborative workshop in South Africa, as one of two students chose by the Music Faculty of Kenyatta University. The ‘musical storyteller’ has most recently been added to the Sauti Academy Hall of Fame as one of the outstanding alumnus.

The show-stopping Serro coming off of her enthralling performance at ‘The Soul Experience’ will be putting up her debut solo performance at Nyama Mama in Delta Tower – Westlands.

Backed by a 5-piece band, the musical story-teller will be belting out crowd favorites such as Rongai as well as new
material.

“We are really excited, the band and I. There are some new additions to the set and we can’t wait to share with the fans.” said Serro.

Her debut single, Rongai, produced by Sauti Sol’s Polycarp Otieno was released in 2016 and the video got her into the list of “Best Kenyan Music Videos in 2016”.

Jamhuri Jam Sessions at Nyama Mama – Delta is collaboration between Jamhuri Festival and Nyama Mama. It takes place every Wednesday night and is meant to celebrate true African talent with the
world.

Their uniqueness is in giving the audience a chance to interact with talented local musicians and experience their music first hand.

Jamhuri Festival, founded by Tom Olang’o, is a quarterly Kenyan festival established to pay tribute to and share African talents with the rest of the world. Nyama Mama is an unpretentious, fun, modern day African roadside diner.

Locally inspired, some of their skilfully concocted dishes include Chapatti
wraps to Mama’s stews and flavourful sides. The ambiance is truly warm and is the perfect setting for this concert. Expect surprise guests thrown in for a twist. To reserve a table for dinner, call
