Legendary Kenyan Dancehall King Redsan Set To Launch “The Baddest” Album On 15th September

Swabri Mohammed, stage name Redsan, is one of Africa’s biggest Dancehall, Reggae and Ragga artists. Redsan has for more than two decades built a strong brand to become one of Kenya’s biggest and most consistent music exports and next month, he will be launching his new album, “The Baddest”, on the 15th of September at the Carnivore Grounds.

Touted as the biggest album launch Kenyans are set to witness in 2018, the concert will feature Jamaican Dancehall artist Demarco and special performances by Nigerian pop diva Tiwa Savage and Kenyan hip hop giant Khaligraph Jones.

Redsan’s journey 

Redsan is among the pioneering Kenyan music acts whose music has dominated the industry for more than two decades commanding massive crowds and connecting with diverse audiences. At the launch event, he will be performing some of his greatest hits of all time as well as new tracks from the new album.

Having cemented his authority with timeliness hits like “Chicken”, “Malaika”, “Touch” and “Apakatwe” that rocked East African music scene hard. Redsan’s past studio albums include: Seasons of the San (2002), Red (2004), Pioneer (2006) and Versatility (2009). From 2013, Redsan was signed to Sony Music and has since worked closely with Rockstar 4000 and Rockstar Africa, with the latter licensing THE BADDEST ALBUM. The Winner Best Kenyan Male Artiste at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards in 2006 has received various nominations on continental award ceremonies including Best East African Album (Pioneer) at the Tanzania Music Awards (2006), Most Promising African Male (2003) and Best East African Male Artist (2004) at the Kora Awards.

Ahead of the launch, Redsan says, “I am bringing my long term friend Demarco who I have also collaborated with in the album as the event’s main feature. I have also worked with Khaligraph before and we happen to share a similar vision. His dream to take Kenyan music to the world is the same as mine from 24 years ago when I started my career,” adding on reigning Nigerian Pop Queen: “Tiwa Savage was an easy choice for me because she is one of the ladies I really admire in the Afro Beats scene and plans to work with her are already underway.”

THE BADDEST ALBUM—Redsan’s fifth album will have 17 tracks including collaborations with Jamaican acts Demarco and Naila (formely of Brick & Lace), Kenyan songstress Yvonne Darc, Tanzanian fast rising artist Ervix and Ugandan heavy weight Jose Chameleone. Redsan says, “I’ve always felt the need to collaborate with likeminded artists who see beyond one region and go on to establish international brands,” adding, “My album is set to take Kenyans to the world.”

Fans should anticipate the worldwide release of THE BADDEST ALBUM from Sept 14th through all digital platforms. In East Africa, the album will be released exclusively for its first two weeks by Safaricom on their digital platforms and powered by Skiza.

Redsan thanked Safaricom for supporting him throughout his career for more than 15 years stating: “I commend Safaricom for its presence in the music industry and creating platforms for artistes to push and promote their brands. They are always trying to break barriers and change how artistes perform in the Kenyan music industry.”
