Kenya Open Golf Limited Marks 50th Anniversary #KenyaOpenAt50

The Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) will today mark 50 years of the Kenya Open Golf Championship at the Muthaiga Golf Club in a series of events that will be marked with a golf tournament during the day, followed by a gala dinner at the same venue.

The golf tourney will tee-off proper at 7:48am and at 11:40am for the morning and afternoon sessions respectively; with the last four-ball teeing off at 1:32pm.

Among the notable names expected to take part at the golf tournament include former Nairobi Governor, Dr. Evans Kidero; legislators Hon. Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri MP), Hon. Charles Kibiru (Kirinyaga Senator), Hon. Kanini Kega (Kieni MP); Barclays Bank of Kenya CEO Jeremy Awori; Kenya Open Golf Limited Chairman Peter Kanyago; Kenya Open Golf Championship Tournament Director, Patrick Obath; Kenya Golf Union Chairman Richard Wanjalla among others.

The day’s events will culminate with the Kenya Open At 50 gala dinner at the same venue which is expected to be graced by Sports Arts and Heritage Cabinet Secretary, Rashid Echesa, who will be the chief guest.

At the dinner, Kenya Open Golf Limited will award a select number of individuals with the Kenya Open Hall Of Fame award for their exemplary contribution to the Kenya Open and golf through the years. The Hall of Fame Award is the highest honour in the golf and is given to individuals who have distinguished themselves over a period of time. This will be the first time in the history of Kenyan golf that the top honour will be awarded.

Guests at the dinner will also have the exclusive opportunity to watch the Kenya Open At 50 documentary before it is aired to the public on local TV stations, and across digital media platforms, in the coming weeks. The documentary chronicles the journey of the Kenya Open Golf Championship, by talking to some of the greatest names that have helped transform the tournament, since its inception in 1967. It also and highlights the key achievements that have been made over the same period.

Speaking ahead of the anniversary celebrations, Kenya Open Golf Limited Director for Publicity and Sponsorship, Kathleen Kihanya, said that the preparations for the event are going on smoothly, adding that the board is looking forward to having a successful day.

“Preparations for the anniversary celebrations are in top gear and we are all looking forward to having a great event which shall mark the beginning of the next phase of the Kenya Open Golf Championship,” she said.
